Nikon and Olympus released two new waterproof, shock proof cameras at the CP+2015 Camera trade show in Japan last week. Both are set to be released at the end of March and April 2015 just in time for the canyoning season to start. If you are looking for a new camera, we have copied some of the specification of both below.
At the trade show we managed to have a quick play with both cameras. In the brief time that was allowed, the Nikon AW130 is very similar to their previous model. It’s slightly a bit faster and the controls have been simplified a bit. The Olympus TG-860 as with the Nikon is similar to their previous model TG-850. Its feels more better in the hand but I still have reservations with the flip LCD screen breaking or getting caught on something.
We will try and get a get these cameras to do a full review later on in the year.
The Nikon COOLPIX AW130 Waterproof Digital Camera from Nikon is a compact point-and-shoot with a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 24-120mm. Wide-angle to telephoto perspectives are covered, and its fast f/2.8 maximum aperture provides effective low-light shooting and shallow depth-of-field effects. 5x optical zoom is included, and when digital Dynamic Fine Zoom is enabled, up to 10x zoom is possible. Vibration Reduction minimizes camera shake from appearing in still photos as well as Full HD 1080p videos.
The new TG-860 is the camera you’ll want to have along for every adventure. Its exterior is built to withstand harsh weather and rough treatment, while its powerful mix of image processing power, creative flexibility, and up-to-the-minute connectivity – with built-in WiFi and GPS – make this camera the perfect choice for capturing action-packed photos and videos.
